Another member of Carnival's second largest class of ships, the Carnival Dream
is the latest cruise ship we’ve cruised on. Measuring in at 130,000 gross tonnage,
and 1004 feet in length, the Dream also has plenty of space to accommodate its
ample amount of activities and accommodations. The Dream has the capacity to
hold 3646 guests, with 1367 onboard crew members.
We boarded the Dream in New Orleans, Louisiana. The embarkation did not seem very smooth,
although this had to do with multiple medical issues that occurred at the
port. Once onboard, the plan was to head
straight to the stateroom, but first we waited for close to 30 minutes for the
elevator. This should have been
expected, so please prepare for the wait times for elevators to be long on the
first day of the cruise.
Once we made it to the room and unpacked a little, we headed straight to Tandoor for lunch. Just like on the Breeze, we loved Tandoor’s food. Serving authentic Indian cuisine, this is a spot we visited several times during our cruise.
Afterwards, we walked throughout the ship, to familiarize ourselves with where different places were located. Just as the Breeze, there were multiple bars and dining areas. The common areas seemed to be fairly spacious for the number of guests the ship accommodates. Every area we visited was clean and very well kept, as usual with Carnival.
Before boarding the Dream, we had read many reviews of the ship, as well as watched tons of YouTube videos about the Dream. By the time we boarded, we already knew that we wouldn’t be seeing anything that we hadn’t seen on the Breeze, and that was fine with us. One thing that the Dream is missing is the Sports Square, with the Ropes Course. If there was any real negative, or disappointment with this ship, that was it!
Other free food choices included Cucina del Capitano, Guys Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina, the main dining room, and room service. We tried everything and had no complaints at all. We seemed to visit Tandoor and Blue Iguana Cantina more than any others though. This cruise, we did not try any of the specialty restaurants.
The crew aboard the Dream were outstanding as usual! Our wait staff was fun and pretty attentive. Our room steward was awesome! We made sure to leave them extra tips, as we felt they went above and beyond the minimum required.
We watched every Playlist Productions show once again. They were good, but nothing that we hadn’t already seen. There was always something to do throughout the day on the Dream. Just like every other cruise, we spent a lot of time playing bingo and trivia, relaxing, and just a little bit of time in the casino. Just like our cruise on the Breeze, we cruised during the month of October, while school was in session, so there was a good mix of adults and children onboard.
Pros: Spacious, Excellent Crew, Multiple food options, Multiple activities
Cons: We missed the Sports Square
Would we recommend others to cruise on this ship: Yes
Favorite part about the Carnival Dream: Spacious ship with plenty to do for adults and children
